Grinter Sunflower Farm

Happy Fall Y’all! What better way to kick off the season than with a gorgeous Sunflower Farm?! This was my first time visiting Jim Grinter’s Sunflower Farm and, oh my, was I blown away. Thousands upon thousands of sunflowers all lined up for one amazing scenery. This white lace dress (sold out, similar here and here) was the perfect dress for being on a farm. I felt like a true Kansas farm girl with my straw hat and jean jacket. It was a wonderful day! My husband, Roberto, and I just got married August 15th and we decided to make our first Pietrogiovanna tradition by vowing to come to the sunflower farm every year to pick a sunflower together.

Valentine’s Day

I’m baaack! Yay! It’s been about 6 months since I’ve blogged BUT I have given the blog a total face lift and I am so ready to start back up again! I recently moved from Charleston to Kansas City and WOW have things changed in these past 6 months! But, for the better, so I could not be happier right now. Just landed a new dream job and I am in the middle of buying my very own house! So things are just busy busy busy! And I’m loving every minute of it.

So FYI, Valentine’s Day is my favorite holiday! And this year I was so blessed to be able to spend it in San Diego with my amazing sister. Our day was filled with food, shopping, coffee, chocolate and THE BEACH! It was such a treat and special day for both of us.

I am thrilled to share my favorite hot pink dress that was just too perfect for the occasion. I mean, come on, what girl doesn’t love getting all dolled up in pink or red for the day of love?!

Think Pink

As of late, the color pink has me going wild; from clothes, furniture, makeup and of course flowers. Every time I see the color pink it makes me so happy, so when I saw this peachy pink Aztec dress I swooned. I think pink is one of those colors that really can look good on everybody. Since there are so many shades of pink, you are bound to find something that fits your style and skin tone. If you find yourself stuck in a neutral rut, throw on some pink, it will make you feel better! Besides, as women, it’s a color that was made for us!

I love dresses with attached belts! Having the belt does wonders for a woman’s figure by creating a cinched waist and making your body look longer and leaner. When buying a shirt style dress that does not include a belt, make sure to add one of your own to create the look. Otherwise without a belt, it can often look like you are wearing a trash bag {and nobody wants that}. You can add a skinny belt if you want the dress to stand out or add a thicker belt to make it a focal point in your outfit. That’s the fun part, you choose and switch it up every time you wear the dress.

Boone Hall Plantation

No words can describe how amazing the history of Charleston is. It surpasses every expectation I have every time I dive into a new piece of it. I recently visited Boone Hall Plantation, a 330 year old plantation, that has been on my Charleston {Bucket List} since I moved here four years ago. Along side the phenomenal history of the plantation; the southern charm, character and beauty made me feel like I was in 1743. A true feeling and memory I will never forget. I had to share my experience with everybody. Enjoy.

When I drove up the plantation road there were rows and rows of daisy’s! It was the perfect feeling to start off the day.

BH16

click here to go to the Boone Hall Plantation website.

BH24

Of course I had to get a pic with the daisy’s.

I started my day at the 25 room plantation house. I was able to take a tour and learn how life was lived in the 1700’s.

Next I headed over to the horse stables and butterfly pavilion. I was in awe with every step I took. I decided that I will own a farm someday.

The little cottage houses around the plantation had the coolest details inside and out.

BH27

Can I live here?

BH7

I want a pair of these benches outside my house someday.

BH29

BH30

Sweet grass baskets are extremely popular still to this day in Charleston.

One of my favorite parts of the day was going on a bus tour of the 700+ acre plantation. I got to see the heart of it all!

The plantation is lined with dozens of Oak Trees planted by John Boone in the 1700’s.

Last but not least I headed over to the Boone Hall Cotton Dock where they host weddings. This barn house is located right on the Cooper River where people traveled by boat to get to the plantation back in the day. What an amazing site. I decided to do a mini photo shoot for the blog to show what a perfect outfit I chose for a day at the plantation.

As I was driving off to go home,  I realized how much love I have for history. I love learning about and experiencing things that have brought our country where it’s at today. It was an emotional day at times but I loved every second of it.

BH31

Could never get enough of these daisy’s. Even as I was driving off I had to take more pictures.

BH19

BH22

Goodbye Boone Hall. I will be back someday.

Everybody should go and experience this magnificent place.

Leather+Denim

Great things come in pairs. Black leather mixed with a vintage wash denim jacket is the perfect hybrid of two classic styles. It is one of my favorite looks these days and the end result is surprisingly luxurious.

What I love most about this look is how easy it was to put together. Literally grabbing two staple pieces from my wardrobe and pairing them with a simple grey V-neck tee, black heels and some accessories totally completes the outfit. How easy is that?!

Being that this is a very simple look I decided to go bold with my necklace. You really can’t go too big with the accessories here when they are paired with all solid colors. This look could also be played down with some flats or sandals and little to no jewelry. You know how I feel about accessories; have FUN with them based on the day and your agenda.

{I loved shooting this blog under the Ravenel Bridge on the Cooper River here in Charleston. Absolutely amazing!}

Feminine meets Masculine

As the famous saying goes “there are no rules in fashion”. Mixing and matching, pairing and wearing whatever you love is what makes fashion so much fun. Don’t be afraid to go dig in your closet and start to pair things you may have thought wouldn’t go together!

Army2

  • J.Crew Army Jacket
  • J.Crew V-Neck Tee
  • Gap Ripped Jeans
  • Tory Burch Clutch
  • Sam Edelman Silver Euro Sandals

This look has a “feminine meets masculine” vibe by taking a menswear inspired piece of clothing (yet structured properly for a woman) and mixing it with girly feminine touches. Throwing in the simple pieces of a V-neck tee and ripped jeans totally makes this a super stylish outfit that I can wear for many occasions.

I searched the internet to find you lovely ladies a great Camo Jacket at an awesome price! My J.Crew jacket is no longer available, but check out the Old Navy link below to get your own!

Don’t forget that when you are mixing and matching feminine with masculine, you are keeping it mostly feminine. Add different pieces of glam jewelry to the outfit. My green drop crystal earrings (Anthropologie), gold and pink gem bracelet and silver rope necklace still give the feminine touches I want while keeping the masculine piece the show stopper!

Army6

Gap has the BEST ripped jeans with very reasonable prices. I have heard a lot of people say “why would anybody buy jeans already ripped?” But my question is “why wouldn’t you buy jeans already ripped”?  They are so chic and stylish and take basic jeans to a whole new fashion level. Besides, you never have to worry about them; fuss free. I say they are worth every penny!

Honeybee Home

As much as I LOVE fashion and beauty, interior design has my heart. There is just so much fun to be had when decorating your own space. And with many DIY projects on the rise for home interior, it takes the fun to a whole other level! The best part of interior design is by far enjoying, using and entertaining in the space you put so much hard work, time and your personal touch on. Today I am featuring 2 different spaces (with a sneak peak to a future blog on my outdoor space) in my small yet functional apartment. I hope this post gets your interior design juices flowing!

ChanningWay4

As much as I am SOO ready to buy my very own house, it’s not quite the time yet. But, that doesn’t mean that I can’t turn my apartment into a dream spot for me. No matter where you live, make it a home! A place where you feel safe, comfortable, relaxed and most importantly a place that reflects everything you love!

I’m starting off with my living room/dining area. This is the space that everybody sees the minute they walk into my house; so of course this spot has to be perfect. No matter what space is the first place people see in your home, make sure that room sets the tone for the rest of the house. Make a good impression right off the bat.

As I’m sure you can tell, I am in LOVE with all things natural, neutral and organic. I call my apartment the <<honeybee home>> being that it reminds me of a honeybee hive. I love a clean look with touches of wood, gold tones and real living greenery! Adding touches of flowers and plants will make any space have such a homey feeling (just make sure you are letting all your natural sunlight in so the plants can sunbath).

ChanningWay3

My glass kitchen table with acrylic chairs (which I picked them all up at Ikea for killer prices) have been by far one of my favorite purchases in this apartment! Taking bold chances with certain pieces of furniture is so much fun and works great as along as what it surrounds is more toned down.

ChanningWay1

Gold touches surrounding a very neutral space give a room glow and highlights in the most perfect way. Most everything you see in this space is from Target! From the modern lamp to the organic wood trays on my coffee table (also from Ikea). Which means that decorating does not have to be expensive! Matter of fact, just like my fashions, you can be <<budget chic>> and decorate an amazing space for minimal money. You just need to be willing to take the time and search for all your favorite things! Some of my very favorite places to shop for the apartment are Goodwill, antique shops, vintage stores and, of course, Target!

ChanningWay5

Two of my favorite things about this apartment are the electric fireplace (which you can kind of see on the far right in the picture above) and my walk out balcony! Fireplaces give a space romance, ambiance and that “I love coming home” feel when it gets a little chilly outside or when the sun goes down. If you have the chance to rent or buy a home with a fireplace, DO IT! My walk out balcony is amazing in the fact that it gives this whole living space so much natural light. Natural light provides a heavenly glow. Who wouldn’t want that in their house?!

ChanningWay2

The balcony also gives me the chance to have my very own garden space. In an upcoming blog I will talk about how to maintain and keep a garden alive, even if you do live in an apartment.

ChanningWay10

Something that I recently realized was that indoor greenery is a big game changer in interior design. Not only are these plants air purifiers, but they bring more life and character to any room! I highly recommend going to your local garden store or Home Depot or Lowes and picking up at least 2-3 indoor plants. Place them in a decorative basket or cute pot (since they do need to be watered) and make sure they have plenty of sunlight. Placing them by a window or on a window seal would be perfect. I water my plants by using plastic water bottles. I poke a small hole in the lid of the bottle and place it upside down in the dirt of the plant. The plant will water itself as it needs more water. I fill up the bottle twice a month and my plants are prospering wonderfully! (ps: the small wood bench my plant is sitting on was all wood when I bought it. I used white spray paint to give it some charm! #DIY)

ChanningWay11

Next space is my bedroom. Gosh I love this space! Again, this goes with the <<honeybee home>> theme. Lots of neutral and organic things in this space, but also little pops of color that all work very well together. My most recent addition to this space is my long farm bench! Picked it up at an antique store for $80! Haven’t decided if I am going to paint it or leave it the original green color, but nevertheless it’s great!

ChanningWay13

Little touches make all the difference when decorating! I picked up this yellow gem ($20) at the same antique store I bought the bench and knew right away I was going to place my large succulent in it and place it right by my bedroom window.

ChanningWay12

White linens on a bed is my absolute favorite look. Having white sheets along with a white quilted comforter make my bed a blank canvas. I can use any pop of color for my pillows and switch them out all year long based on the season. Being that it’s summertime, I had to throw some bright floral pillows (picked them up as a set at TJ MAXX for $24) on the bed!

<< ps: | the copper mirror in the background was a black mirror I picked up at Target for $12 and spray painted. #DIY | >>

ChanningWay7

I am not a fan of seeing too many pillows on a bed, but I LOVE sleeping with tons of pillows. Laying your sleeping pillows flat and stacking them on top of each other behind your sham and decorative pillows is a great way to hide them!

ChanningWay6

My glass dresser was a major investment! BUT it has worked in every bedroom I’ve put it in and goes with any color scheme. It’s timeless and classic and will stay with me forever! Those are the pieces that are worth putting money towards. When shopping for furniture, again, don’t always go just for cheap. Certain pieces of furniture are worth the investment especially if it is a piece you know you’ll always need and use.

ChanningWay9

How much fun are these baskets and yellow poufs!? Two of my favorite things to decorate a space with! They were all bought from Target’s Nate Berkus collection. He is a permanent designer for Target who also happens to be my favorite interior designer!

ChanningWay8

Again, keeping my windows open and letting all the natural light shine through just makes this space so cozy! Go though your whole house or apartment, open all the windows, and let the light shine! You’ll notice a huge difference right away of how it makes each room look and feel!

Thank you all for checking out a few spaces in my <<Honeybee Home>>! If you saw anything you loved in any of the pictures and would like to know where I purchased it, leave a comment below.

Happy Decorating!

Everyday Runway

One of my biggest fashion pet peeves is when people assume that unless they are going somewhere nice or special they don’t need to <<dress to impress>>. That could not be farther from the truth. I learned at a very early age from my grandmother, who has always been a stylish and classy lady, that no matter where you go “keep your back straight when you walk and dress as if everyday was your very own fashion show”. With that being said, depending on the day and what I need to do or get done determines what kind of “fashion show” I am going to have. Of course comfortability is important to me, which is why I love to show women that you can be comfortable AND fashionable all at the same time no matter what is on your agenda. Fashion is meant to be fun and exciting and when you embrace your inner fashion-ista every day you will walk out of your house with more pep in your step along with a self confidence boost. Make everyday your runway.

JeanD1

^^J.Crew outlet jean dress, Gap skinny belt, Sam Edelman wrap sandals, Oia Jules (find her on Instagram) shark-tooth gold necklace and Ray-Ban shades^^

On my most current day off work I literally had no where special to go or no one special to see but I did have some errands and running around to do; so I knew that I needed to be comfortable. The last thing women think to put on to be comfortable is a dress. But I am here to tell you that when you own dresses made of great fabrics that fit you properly, you will start to live in dresses! Investing in a jean dress is something I highly recommend doing being that it can literally take you from work to play to going to the grocery store. It’s all about how you dress it up or dress it down. All I did is wrap my gap skinny belt ($25) around my waist and form the dress (J.Crew outlet, $20) to have a more relaxed fit. Rolling up the sleeves definitely gives it a very laid-back look. Then paired it with some fun ankle wrap sandals (Sam Edelman, $100) that have a small stacked heel to give it more of a feminine touch.

JeanDress6

<<I can’t believe I got these great shots at my very own apartment complex!>>

JeanDress5

<<ps: I love yellow daisy’s!>>

JeanDress4

Accessories are EQUALLY important to any outfit you wear. If you are taking the time to look nice with your clothes make sure you are adding those fun accessories. For this particular outfit, being that it’s more casual, I just threw on a gold statement necklace (Oia Jewels, $50), some simple gold hoops (Juicy Couture, $20) and of course my awesome aviator Ray-Bans ($150). Honestly, just throwing on some fun or simple earrings and some shades can take any casual look to the next level. There really are no rules when it comes to jewelry playing up your outfit! No matter what age, girls love how jewelry makes them feel.

JeanDress2

Let’s be honest, most of the time we don’t have somewhere super nice to be or some special event to attend. Besides maybe our job, we usually are in casual settings. But who cares! Take advantage of every opportunity to <<dress to impress>> and make everyday your runway. Next time you think to throw on baggy, shapeless, doing nothing for your awesome shape clothes when you have an uneventful day ahead of you, think again about what your inner fashion-ista would do. You deserve to look your very best and to show the world how much you care about your appearance and taking care of you!

See you on the catwalk!

Budget Chic

Let me start off by confessing my extreme addiction to shopping. And when I say shopping I don’t just mean clothes. My shopping frenzies can range from big pieces of furniture all the way down to my favorite tube of lip-gloss. There are so many things that make me happy to shop for! With that in mind, I need to make sure I am finding the best deals. I am not cheap in any way, shape or form (which is probably a bad thing), BUT I am <<Budget Chic>> which means that I will search and search and search for exactly what I am looking for before I buy. Today is all about being <<Budget Chic>> with fashion and truly what you can find for killer deals if you are willing to search.

July6th3 - Copy

^Gap Jean Jacket, Gap grey tee, Anthropologie octopus shorts, Sam Edelman gold sandals and Ray-Ban shades^

There is truly a difference between buying something because its cheap and buying something you LOVE that you found for a killer price. When you just buy cheap you’ll more than likely not love what you bought, but if you are <<Budget Chic>> and search out the things you love for a good price you’ll never have buyers remorse but an actual sense of happiness every time you put on that piece of clothing.

July6th2 - Copy

I am obsessed with jean jackets and they can be very expensive if you are not careful. I own 3 different shades of jean jackets and each one of them I bought at an outlet mall and on SALE! This dark jean jacket came from the Gap Outlet and only cost me $25; which is so worth every penny since this thing is a work horse and a staple piece in my wardrobe. The grey tee also came from the Gap Outlet which was only $7! I highly recommend buying basic tees at outlets or at least on the clearance rack being that you will have to replace them every 6-8 months anyways. My Anthro octopus shorts have such a fun story attached to them like a lot of my clothes do. I was in Santa Barbara, CA a few months ago with a couple of my sisters who are HUGE consignment store shoppers! They took me to all their favorite spots which one in particular had me so blown away with top name brands that sat in this shop! I scored about 5 different pieces including these shorts that cost me only $16 (and a fun sister story) compared to $70 if I were to walk into Anthropologie and buy them! Why I tell you this story is to encourage you that when you are going on a vacation near or far and you are planning a shopping day, get online and search for places to shop whether that be an outlet mall, consignment shops, vintage stores, etc. You will have so much more fun, find killer deals and have cool stories to share when people ask you where you bought that item!

July6th4 - Copy

Sam Edelman is one of my favorite shoe designers! These gold gladiator style sandals have such quality yet are timeless and chic. He’s expensive though which is why I love…drum roll please…HSN (home shopping network)! I know that sounds so old lady-ish but they have an awesome program called “Flex-Pay” which means you can spread out your purchase over several months, interest free! Once you pay those shoes off, grab you the next! I love it and it is definitely super <<Budget Chic>>! HSN carries Sam Edelman, Vince Camuto and many other well known brands! Go online and check them out for sure.

Lastly, my oh-so chic Ray-Bans. First pair I have ever owned and now I am in love and own 2 pairs. First, I went online and signed up to be on Sunglass-Hut’s email list and received a $20 off coupon. Next, I headed to the Sunglass-Hut at the OUTLET MALL (about 3 different times), where I knew I would get a discounted price anyways. I finally found me the pair I really wanted at a fraction of the price if I had just went to the regular mall. I am being dead serious when I say, “before you buy anything go online and grab a coupon!” because most places have free coupons sitting online to be used. It really is super awesome!

Thank you all for reading! Have a blessed day and happy shopping my <<Budget Chic>> lovies!

xo,

Alisha
